MINING REGULATIONS UNDER "THE MINES ACT, 1877."
Any parson discovering new gold working, nnd being des :,, ons of obte/ning an increased area thoreoa sna'l m?uk oil a prospering claim, as provided i» Regulation 11, and shall immediately repot* such discovery with full pardeuiars to th* Warden, and the ground marked off ehall be protected until the Warden shall have finally refused or granted the claim ; but the Warden may, if he ilrnk fit. retrain from granting or refusing such claim until the grouod shall hare been visited by himself or by auyone appointed by him. Notices of all prospecting claims granted with full particulars of 'ocality, yiel-1 o; gold,, and description of workings, shall posted by the Warden ot* the outside oi his office for public information. It shall not be lawful for the Warden tr> grant a prospecting claim for any new discovery at a leas distance than two miles from any previously existing workings in jnlluvial ground, nor tr grant a prospecting claim for any new Jiscovery of a quarts reef at a less distance than half a mile lrom any previously existing quartz workings. Bvery prospecting claim shall, after being marked, be held by one man remaining on the ground during working hours until the application is d®alt witlit and, if granted, the claim must, unle»s by special permission of the War lea, be iallv occupied within seven days from the data of grant. The Warden may, if he think fit, grant aprospsctingclaim totheaci.ua! discoverer of new gold workings conjointly with persons who have assisted them in prospecting either with contributions or otherwise, or with other person * who may be nominated by the actual discoverers, although the said persons may not have been on the ground prior to th.? gran sing thereof. The Warden may, upon the application of any persons firming a party of not, less than four, grant protection for not more than three months for a prospecting area at a distance of not less than -jWo miles from any existing workings in alluvial ground, or in the case of quartz workings of not less than half a mile i':om any existing quartz workings : Provided in no oase shall any such prospecting area be granted within halt a mile of any other such prospecting area. Provided further that luch protection shall only continue in force until gold is struck, in which case the discovery shall be reported, or until the holders are required by the Warden to mark a prospecting claim, in either of which cases a pros- ecl'iag claim shall be marked and appVed for as provided in Regulation 11. and V., and protection shall thereupon cease as to the remainder of such prospecting area. It shall be lawful for the Warden to remew from time to time the protection for a prospecting area. Prrvided that such renewed protection shall not be granted for more than three months to any time.
