THE SCULLING EVENTS.

Tin second, great aquatic event of the sfuson, is past and over, and Beach has added jet anether claim upon the championship which he holds. From the brief particulars of last Saturday's event between himself and Clifford, it would -appear that the latter was put away ia uiiuch the samefashion, ai when he pulled 11 anlan on the 7th of last month. Biu the one ewrnt, in which so much keen interest is b.ein» felt, is that between Beach and Hanlan, for .£SOO a-side and the championship of the world, whieh takes ;place on the Paramatta course on the 23th«.of this menth. The present champion and his'plucky opponent, the hero of so many successful spurts, will then meet one another in all the earnestness cf pure livaliy, for a position which only .verv good men can ever hope to reach. Without .deubt, this race will be one of the j.most'exciting seen for years past, and it .is to be hoped that a love of fair play will pievail, and so let the best man win. Some pointed criticisms have been made of late, and justly too, upon the manner in whick steamers, aitd boats are allowed to ply and, plough about the course during the actual contests ; and thus, of course, interfering with the scullers. From a Sydney telegram just received, it would appear that some stringent measures are being take*, to put down this sort of thing. The sooner the better ; the cause cf Hanlan s last dtieat, has always been a disputed point, it being a simple matter to obstruct any man's chance of winning, when there is nothing to prevent any selfish spectators from pushing their mosquito .fleet ri*ht in the way.
