Monday is generally looked upon as a slack day on the waterfront at Lyttelton, but the conditions at the port yesterday were quito the reverse. Four colliers arrived on Sunday, together with the East Coast boat Monowai, and consequently the waterside workers were fully employed, in fact, the supply of labour was not equal to tho demand. After frequent spells of inactivity, the change yesterday was decidedly welcomed by the men, many of whom have earned only small wages of late. Tho Rosamond was due to sail from Westport yesterday for Lyttelton. She will return to the West Coast to-morrow.a Discharging on board the Karauiu aro expected to complete on Wednesday, and tho vessel will sail thonoe for Wellington for survey. The Koromiko, with a full cargo of produce, will proceed to Auckland to-day. The Cygnet commenced her old itinerary yesterday, and will proceed on Wednesday to Kaikoura and Wellington. At the latter port she will load cheese crates for tho Peninsula, being due back here on Saturday. the Wootton sailed last night for Wellington with general cargo. She iB expected bacK about Thursday, but will not return to the northern port until Saturday, owing to it being intended to blow down the boiler. In continuation of discharge of her Liverpool cargo, tho Shaw. Savill and Albion Company’s De'phic is due fn port this morning from Wellington* Tho vessel is expected to proceed south about Thursday next.
