CHOICE OF SERVICE.

VOLUNTARY RECRUITS GIVEN PREFERENCE.

The recruiting authorities are eager to encourage voluntary enlistments despite any introduction of the compulsory clauses of tho Military Service Act, and to this end an important concession will be made. Those men who volunteer for active service will be given as far as possible a choice of the Branch of service they prefer. The meeting of the men's wishes will, *of course, depend upon the number of vacancies in the respective branches of service. The oonsenbed men will have no choice, but will be drafted aB the military authorities require. As the volunteers will almost certainly be in sufficient numbers to fill the quotas in branches other than infantry, conscribed men will have to serve in the infantry.
