RICCARTON BURGESSES’ ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. There was a record attendance of about thirty members at the monthly meeting of the .Riccarton Burgesses’ Association, held on Thursday night, Mr R. W. Brighting (president) occupying the chair. The main business, tbe cause of the unusually largo gathering, was the confirmation of the new rules adopted at the August meeting, these rules involving a change of name to the Riecarton Progress Association. The confirmation of the rules was moved by Mr ,1. Staples, who referred briefly to tbe alterations made. With regard to the change of name, lie pointed out the association admitted members v,-ln> were net burgesses of tbe borough of Riccnrton, nnd that it had been decided already to increase the area from which members •ec'ald be drawn, with the ultimate aim of extending tho borough boundaries to include certain contiguous areas now being closely settled. At tho end of a lively discussion a vote was taken, most of tho “progress ” advocates voting for the retention of the old namo in order to keep the association intact. The other rules were passed without much discussion, except in regard to qualification for memherfhip and the association s area of control, which was ultimately defined as tho Riccarton Borough and outlying lands bounded by. the West Belt on tho east, from tho flour mill along tho Avon to Clyde Road, thence by Clyde Road to Wharenui Road, along that and other thoronghfares to tho so*uth boundary ot^ tho borough. , . . Congratulations were tendered to the Social Committee upon the net profit of £22 15s 7d from the recent Red Cross social. . . Mr Robinson was thanked for his offer, on behalf of tho Scottish Society, to provide a concert under the xuispioGs of tho association in aid. or the Lady Liverpool Fund, and the Social Committee was empowered to make arrangements.
