PROPOSED LOCAL RAILWAY.

A representative "conference of delegates from local bodies was held to-day to discuss the buil3ing-:of a-link railway between Wanganui and Raetihi under tho provisions of the Local Railways Act. There) were’ also present Messrs W. A. Vtfitchv.' 6. V. Pearce and R. W. Smithj'M.P.y.';/.... J It was stated that the. proposed railway would serve g large area of good country and shorten >the present journey between Wanganui and Ohakunp hy fifty miles. It was decided to approve of the formation of a railway .district embracing portions of Tour : , counties -: nnd roughly a thousand sipiarc. miles/in. extent, and to urge the Government to have a survey/carried out With the object of ascertaining'"the most-prao-ticablo route.
