MR GERARD TO RETURN-

A dispatch from Berlin states that Herr von Jagow visited Mr Gerard today, and the latter will go to Copenhagen on Tuesday and sail for America on Thursday. It is reported in "Washington that Mr Gerard carries suggestions from Germany that the time is ripe for President Wilson to suggest mediation for ending the war. President Wilson is heing advised hy his friends to do nothing of this character on his own responsibility, becauso of the possibility of offending tho Allies,,but to compel Germany to place her ideas concerning mediation in a formal document for submission to the Entente.

CANADIAN ARMY.

375,000 MEN ENLISTED. (Received September 2G, 8.25 p.m.). OTTAWA, September 26. The Dominion Government has appointed a board to stimulate enlistments. The total enlistments to date are 375,000 out of 500,000 wanted.
