The principal work of tho Lady Liverpool depot for the past month has been tine making up of the Christmas parcels for Canterbury soldiers on ac.ive eevvice. The appeal made'by the Mayoress'for funds and good 3 to suppiy tii/2so gift parcels is meeting with a generous responre, aud the dopot now bear 3 some resemblance to a well stocked shop. It ia gratifying to noto how well the schools are contributing, as numerous boxes of goods, the result ot gift afternoons, aro being frequently received from them. Iho work is going on most satisfactorily, and already tho parcels destined for Egypt aro in "Wellington awaiting shipment. Contributors to tho fund would be most gratified to see the splendid parcels that, aro being sent this year. A sub-committee has been set up to organise a " buttle" campaign on somewhat similar lines to that held recently in Dunedin. Tbe head leaciiers of tho Fchools were written to la.ciy regarding the idea, aud already" eomo of them havo the matter well in hand. The committee has now decided to ask collectors to ho.d their stocks whilst the best means of. disposing c{ them is under consideration. Tho committee is hoping that the fund' will bo materially benefited by tho effort, which will be made mainly by the school children. . .. As a result of a- "bottlo day' at tho Sydenham School tho head master (Mr Bean) forwarded fiS, the proceeds from tho sale of some 200 dozen bottles. Mr Bean, in a le.ter to tho secretary, remarks that he considers that the effort 'has an educational valuo attached to it. . Madame Ottleo and bor pupils, to bo known as the Lady Liverpool Fund Glee Fartv, have made arrangements to give the 'first of a series of concerts next month in the Art Gallery. A vary attractive programme has been prepared. Among the items aro some qlcea which will be heard for tho first timo in iNew Zealand. There are already packed ready to dispatch this week to France twelve largo cases of woollen govds, consisting of balaclavas, tocks, mittens, etc.
