4. First acceptances for tho Now Zealand Trotting Cup aro duo on Wednesday. In connection with the Amberley race meeting, the name of British .Rose was omitted from tho acceptances for the Jumpers’ < Flat Race, and those of Sister Regis and Owlietoro from tho Hack Welter Handicap I-I. Cutts is expected home this morning with Good Hope and Wrestler, who had no engagements on the second day of the Wanganui Jockey Club's meeting. When the Amberley Racing Club decided to abandon its steeplechase fixture, in favour of a programme which catered for flat racing, Dominion Daywar. chosen for tho first meeting,' which will be held on Monday. The fields for most of tho events are large, and there should be some first-class sport, as the quality of tho horses engaged is above the average usually seen on country courses. The club has shown a desire to provide racing of good class, one of the events being the Mount Grey Stakes, of seven _ furlongs, at weight-for-age, and it will create a lot of interest. Mr G. D. Greenwood is strongly represented, with Bimeter and Emperador, both of whom have been gallopino- well, while Mr G. E. Stead’s tlirco-year-old, The Toff, who is a certain starter, is reported to be in his best fern. All tho events, bear an open appearance* and they should . provide some excellent racing. A special train will leave Christchurch at 9.46 a.m., returning after the last race and reaching the city at 7.55 p.m. According to reports from Sydney, Sasanof is well in the market for the Melbourne Cup, but some writers say it is because of his good showing in the Chelmsford Stakes rather _ than any actual support for the Martian gelding. A Sydney writer says that Kilboy was ■ finishing on well at the end of tho Chelmsford Stakes, and his form suggests that ho would be more at home over one mile and a haltV Under the circumstances Mr J. B. Reid’s colt may have to ho seriously considered in connection with the Australian. Jockey Club’s Derby. The win of Vladian. in the Oko.hu Hurdle Handicap at Wanganui this week did not come out of turn. In the early part of last season lie won three hack hurdle races, and a few months ago he was a much-talked-of candidate for the big jumping events of the winter. He was one cf the popular fancies for the Century Hurdle Handicap at Wanganui, hut was beaten out of a place, while he failed in four more engagements, before the season closed. His sire, Vladimir, a good racehorse in liis day-, is a halfbrother to Art, winner of the Grand National Hurdle Handicap, while his dam, Rejected, is by Sornnus —Legera, by St Leger—Leonossa, by Leolinus — Petroleuse, the dam of Hotchkiss. Depredation, the winner of the Spring Handicap at Wanganui this week, is a four-year-old by the Carbine horse Campfire, his dam, Gosling, being by Amphion—Goosander, by Nordenfeldt—Albatross, by Malta—Auk, so that he comes from a very successful New Zealand family. Gannet, tho first foal produced by Albatross, was the dam of Booby, who gave the turf that great hurdler, Paisano. Merganser, a sister to Goosander, was a high-class race mare, though she. did not breed on. Ouiralba, by Cuirassier— Albatross, is the dam of Endeavour, who produced Effort and Expect, while Parera, a sister to Ouiralba, is the dam of Pas Seul, Nyland, Boanerges and Pariform. Depredation thus comes from a lino which has been very much in evidence in the Dominion, and it looks as if the latest representative would add considerably to the family lustre. Depredation raced very consistently last season, chiefly in six furlong events, but his performance at "Wanganui, where he ran over the opposition at the end of eight furlongs and a half, suggests that ho wil learn distinction over longer courses before the season is much further advanced. Though ho had to be content with third place, the imported horse, Panmare, registered a good performance in tho Flying Handicap at "Wanganui. He had all the worst of the handicapping in trying to give Chakwana 131’o. Last January, at Trenthara, Panmuro 7st 121 b beat Tete-a-tete 9st 11b by a neck in tbe Telegraph Handicap, while Chakwana Bst 71b was half a length away, so that she was meeting Pan-n-ve on 221 b better terms at Wanganui this week. Panmure has not been seriously tried over more than seven furlongs.up to the present, but it is only a question of staying for him to win lots of good races this season. The win scored by Wrestler iii the Maiden Hack Race at "Wanganui was freely anticipated at Riecarton, whore the colt has been responsible for some smart track performances lately. Ever since ho was broken in he has had a reputation as a speedy galloper, and he reeled off some brilliant sprints last seasou, reminiscent of tho doings of his sire, Antagonist, whose first winning representative he is. He competed twice last autumn, but on neither occasion did he realise expectations. His win at Wanganui, therefore, was all the more pleasing, as it was the first time ho had reproduced his \ track form in public. Wrestler’s dam/ Elusive, is by Trenton—Elousis, an imported mare by Burcaldine. 'Elusive, w|io is now an
' old maro. is tho dam of To-morrow. Lady Wayward, Fairhaven, Flitaway. Thistledown and Snapdragon. To-mor-row is the dam of Battle Eve and Good Hope; Lady Waywa.rd of Winning Way; Fairhaven of Quarantine, Stevedore and Wharfinger; while. Flitaway has produced Holiday. Thcro is no lack of speed in tho family, among the horses mentioned being a number of good winners, but consistency has not always been a characteristic. It remains to be seen whether Wrestler will turn out a solid racehorse, but in the meantime he gives promise of being decidedly useful. DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB. PRESIDENT RESIGNS. [From Our Correspondent.] 'DUNEDIN, September 22. Sir George M’Lean has resigned bis position as president of the Dunedin Jockey Cl*ab, which he has filled for thirty-three years, because despite his protest tho majority of the committee persisted in placing oight races on the winter programme. When the Gaming Bill was before the Council he had given an assurance that this would not be done and tho action of tho Dunedin Jockey Club committee was opposed to his pledge as a member of ‘ tho Legislature.
