ENTERTAINMENT AT KAIAPOI
IN AID OF RED CROSS FUND. There was a large attendance last evening at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Kata- - poi, when an entertainment was given in aid of the'Red Cross Fund by Mrs Reay’s Kaiapoi concert party of about sixty performers. The stage was . * tastefully decorated and the function was most successful in every detail. The soloists were heartily applauded . ‘ and the chorus also did excellent work. Every item of, the programme was given in character, and the various cos- , tumes were of high artistic standard. The programme comprised, a Japanese fantasy given by Mrs B. L. _ Wil-' son, Mr GG Hirst and a chorus; a oymbal-dance, by Misses H. K. and P. Parnham, H. Pearce, Z, Poole, V. Papprill, I. Richards, H. aud G. M’lntosh; a musical medley by Mi® B Watts, Mrs L. L. Wilson, and Messrs T. IP. Leithead and J. L- Conlan; the opening chorus and dance from the “ Gondoliers,” the soloists being Misses Watts, E. Thorne,-Mrs L. L. ,Wilson, Messi-| G. Miller, A. Peai'ce ana Thorpe; a fancy dance by Misses V. Papprill, Z. Poole, H. and K. Parnham, and Messrs .Forrest, Ashby, Pani- . ham and,. M’lntosh; a swing song by \ Miss Brunton and chorus; and a soldiers’ and nursemaids’' parade .by sixteen boys and girls. A charming item was a series, of nursery rhymes N entitled “Old Friends with New Faces,” 'in which the jfrificipal chnracters wore as follow: —Sister Ann, Miss L. C. Watts;'Mistress Mary, Miss M* f M’Gregor; Humpty Dumpty, Mr 1* R. Leichead; Jack and Jill, Mrs . Evans and Mr W. Rule; Mother Huh- • bard, Mrs M’Lajighlan; Boy Blue, Miss G." Wylie: Jack Homer, Mr A. Blakeley; Red Riding Hood, Miss M’ltobie. ' The Mayor (Air J. H. BlackweU) tyi- ■ / -.■> nounced that the Red Cross Fund would bonefit to the, extent of over > £4O, and that it had been decided to repeat the entertainment next week. During the evening a palm presented by Mrs Brighting was sold for £1 loe. A guessing competition for a picture’-' painted and presented by Mrs J. L. Conlan was won by* Mrs Pinfold, ana realised £4 4s. A tray cloth, presented by Mrs Rcay, was won by Messrs T. H. Wright and W. S. Blackwell, who returned it for sale, the total proceeds reaching £2 9s.
