COUNTY COUNCILS.

AMTTRI. Tho Amuri County Council met at Culverden on Saturday; present—Messrs D. Rutherford (chairman), M. Bothell, H. R. Davison, G. Fulton, is. Hampton, F. S. Northcote, K. Pettigrew and L. J. Pulley. Mr J. H. Davison (St Leonard's) waited on tho council in connection with the Kaiwara Road exchange. After discussion, it was decided that the chairman and c.erk should inspect the roads during the month and report. Mr A. J. Sunckell wrote, stating that the new cutting at Lottery had made his entrance impassable, and asked that the council should remedy the matter. It was decided that the surface men should do the work. The manager, St Helens, wrote stating that he purposed making a drain up to one of the largest culverts on the motor road, and" also to deepen a drain above the culvert which, when done, would mean that the drain level would be lower than the culvert. He wished to know if the council had any comment to make on the matter. The overseer stated that if the work as outlined was carried out, the culvert levol wou’d have to be lowered, otherwise it would scour out in case of flood. It was decided to give permission to do the work, provided tho cost of lowering and enlarging the culvert was borne by the estato. Mr J. Black’s application for permission to straighten a portion of .his water-race was granted, subject to tho work being done to the satisfaction of the overseer. Mir A. "W. Furze wroto, stating that ,the road leading from the main rond to his property was in a bad state, and rcqui r ed re-forming. It was decided that the work should be done with the grader. Mr Furze also asked for the hire of the grader team to form a few chains of private road. It was agreed to let him have the use of the grader at the rate of £2 10s per day. In answer to the council’s application for a grant of £l5O from tho -hospital Beard towards the local doctor, tho secretary of the hoard stated that a sum of £SO had been granted, but was subject to the approval oi the Minister. It was decided to forward a copy of the letter to the chairman of the Medical Beard at "Waiau. The Chief Health Officer wrote, stating that the council’s application for street lighting in Hanmer coula not bei entertained.

The Akaroa County Council wrote, asking the Amuri Council’s co-operation in protesting against the Riccaxton. Borough Council’s by-law restricting the driving of cattle in the borough between certain hours. It was unanimously decided to support the action taken by the Akaroa County Council. In connection with the riding boundaries, the clerk rfl.ated that ho had conferred with the Chief Surveyor of tho Lands Department regarding them, and a clear description of tho boundaries had boon outlined. It was decided to procure a new district map showing the revised riding boundaries. Tho Treasury forwarded vouchers showing that the sum o. £29 16s bonus on keas’ heads and £255 17s, balance of subsidy on rates, had been l placed to tho credit of the couocil at the Union Bank of Australia, Christchurch. krDougall Bros, wrote, asking that the road leading to their property should be repaired. It was decided that ihe matter should be attended to by the surfacemen. The overseer was directed to draw up specifications for metalling one mile on Lyndon roads and also one mile on the Balmoral-Tekoa Road. It was decided to write to the Public Works Department and ask if the grant for Peach’s Cutting was available. _ .-no One tendpr was received for Boaven s Road metalling Mnvo Bros., at 2s 9d per cubic yard, and it was accepted subiect to their starting the work in one month’s time.
