DEPUTATION TO BOROUGH COUNCIL. SELWYN STREET ROUTE ’ SUGGESTED. . \t the meeting of the Spreydon Borough Council last night a deputation of the eastern residents ot tue borough waited on the council to express their views with regard to the proposed tramway extension. Mr J. Butterfield, who spoke on behalf of the deputation, said he understood that four routes were suggesteu by the council. Ho considered that the sub-committee appointed should report that it was the wish of fho pastern residents that the route should be along Solwyn Street to connect with Barrington Street, tlience to the foot of the hills By this route 700 residents would bo catered for, compared with 100 by the Simeon Street route. Councillor D. Williamson asued whether it would not be better to have a route through tho centre of SpreyMr Butterworth said that the residents had to bo considered. It was no uso taking the route where there Wl CoE£ Wilkinson said he did not aence with the idea. Mmsor) said that tho residents of a portion of Spreydon should waive a point if it was decided to take the. tram-where it was most suitable to all residents, and thus save a special rate for some of the residents who would'not benefit by tho extension. He congratulated the deputation for coming forward and expressing their views, but whatever was to be done, would bo done for the good of the whole borough and not for a portion of it. . After tho deputation had retired the mavor said the proposed extension again opened up the question of a recreation ground. Councillor G. Hr Rudd said he was in favour of a.. recreation ground whether the tfaniway. Wtts extended or R, H. Taylor said he considered tho proposed route in£cnvemenCouncillor E. O’Rorke stated lie would support the extension along Barrington Street. Councillor Rudd moved that steps should be taken to secure the domain and that a committee should be set up to consider tho matter of a recreation gl Councillor E. H. Clarke seconded the motion, which was carried. Councillor W. J.
