Casualty list No. 216 includes the following:— _ Wounded— Corporal M’Niel, LanceCorporal J. Cameron, Privates E. J. Cameron, B. W. J. Herbert, J. Jesser, R. G. Purchase, W. Henry (second occasion), and P. Smith (previously reported missing). PERSONAL NOTES. Mrs J. Smith, of 20, Croha.ne Street, Addington, has received a letter from her eldest sou, Private A. Smith, who is with tho South 1 Australian forces, stating that he was wounded with other members of a machine-guu section near Pozieres. A shell splinter struck him in the shoulder, but it has been removed and he .is progressing well. Trooper Frank Goodrich, killed in action at El Rumani, Egypt, on August 9, was tho eldest son of Mr H. Goodrich, of 5, Windsor Street, The Mount, York, and nephew* of Mr J. Magson, Rakaia. He was thirtythree years of age and came out to New Zealand about ten years ago, and since then had been engaged in farm work, chiefly in North Canterbury. He was in the employ of Mr Streeter, of Greendale, when ho enlisted, and ho left New Zealand with the Third Reinforcements. His younger brother, Harry, left with the Eighth Reinforcements and is “ somewhere in France.”

Sergeant Herbert Jubille Dyke, son of Mrs Dyke, Walter Street, Caversham, Dunedin (killed July 28), enlisted in the North Island and went with tho Alain Body, previous to which he was a horse trainer. He fought through the Gallipoli campaign and was successful in -gaining two promotions in the field. He has two younger brothers at present on active service. Sergeant Dyke was a crack shot and secured second prize at tho shooting competition at the Auckland Exhibition.

Second-Lieutenant J. W. Gorrie, Worcestershire Regiment, who was killed in action on July 19, was the youngest son of Air 11. T. Gorrie, of Auckland. He went to England in June, 1915, and joined the Inns of Court, 0.T.0., and from there was gazetted to tho Worcestershire Regiment. His major writes: “He was a splendid officer, and we all loved him; he aiad a gallant death. The battalion lias done well, and made a. good deal of ground, but the price is heavy when such as he are gone.”

Trooper J. W. Crighton, whose namo appeared in a recent list of the wounded, is the youngest son of Air A. Crigbtou, of Waiuku, Auckland province, and was for two years in tho Auckland Alounted Rifles before his enlistment in the Expeditionary Force. He left New Zealand fifteen months ago, and served on the Gallipoli Peninsula and also in Egypt, where lie was last heard from.
