SCOW CAPSIZED.
THE CREW MISSING. SEARCH ON THE COAST. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND-, September 20. A tug has packed up the scow Vesper, capsized in the Hauraki Gulf, and is j, towing her to Whangaparapara on Great Barrier Island, where sho will be . ■ righted and beached. The crew, which is missing, consisted of G. S. Davis (captain), Leslie Craw (mate), Charles Smith (ongineer), and another man, name unknown. The coast is being searched for possible survivors.' The scow was on a voyage from Whangarei to Clevedon ■ (Southern Wairoa). The “Herald’s” correspondent at Port Fitzroy telegraphed to-night as follows: —The scow V esper was first ' sighted one mile off Whangaparapara bottom up, by fishermen, early on Tuesday. With help they towed her to Whangaparapara harbour, experi encing great difficulty, as both anchor were dragging, and the sails were 6et. The dinghy was missing, and there was no sign of the crew. (A telegram yesterday stated that an auxiliary screw scow, with two propellers, had been seen floating bottom up off Whangaparapara.
