PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS.
AN AUCKLAND CASE. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 20. The manual branch of the Auckland Education Board, having a vacancy lor a bookkeeper supervisor, communicated with the Returned Soldiers’ Employment Bureau, ' which recommended Sergeant-Major Grcpn. When the latter applied for the position he was informed by tho Director he had decided to recommend A. Schultze, whose qualifications eminently fitted him for the positionAt a board meeting several members took exception to the Director’s acr lion and maintained that preference should he given to a returned soldier. Answering questions, Mr Schultze said he was twenty-cno years of age and that a recruiting officer hnd informed him that probably lie would not bo required for active service. Though Schultz? could bo traced back to German antecedents, his father ;s a Scotchman. The hoard derided to defer making the appointment, and call for applications again.
