BLACK OUTLOOK FOR NEW YEAR (Received January 4, 7.15 p.m.)

ROME, January 4. The Vienna newspaper " Reiohspost," in a New Year article, says: " The war is a terrible, severe fight against overwhelming forces of men and money, whose fleets and forts command the sea and traffio with many neutral States."

The " Zeit" says that the New Year will cost Austria still greater sacrifices in blood and treasure. The " Arheiter Zeitung " says that when the war was begun tho sun shone with assurances of a glorious victory. The sun shines no longer, and the mountain of losses rises higher and higher.
