PIGEON FLYING.
CHRISTCHURCH HOMING SOCIETY. The Christchurch Homing Pigeon Society flew off a race from Matakawa Point, north of Hicks Bay, on December 27, twenty-four birds being sent, divided amongst eleven lofts. The birds were liberated in a light westerly wind and hazy weather. Owing to (he late liberation none reached home bn clay of toss. The race was open for three days. Four birds reached home on the second day, and two more on the third day. Very little time divided the first three birds. The winner of the first and special prize was F,. Rowe’s Spin sol, whioh flew the distance of 523 miles 1263 yards air line in 21hr 26min 7sec, after deducting eight hours for darkness, a velocity of 716yds per minute. F. Kinesford’s Capitaine was Reoond in '2lhrs 28min 28sec, a velocity of 715yds; J. Barter’s Scottish Queen third in 21hr 26min, a velocity of 714yds ; J. Barter’s Supremo fourth in iShrs lmin, a velocity of 666yds; E. Rowe’s Ruhl fifth in 2f)hrs 38min, a velocity of 519yds: A. Finlayson’s Gladsome sixth in 30brs 17min, a velocity of 508yds. Mr F. Kiugsford will hold for one. year Messrs Miacquarrie and Smith's challenge silver cup for most, points secured in the two East Cape races. '
