EDUCATION ACT.
THE NEW PROVISIONS. [From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, January 4.
The Education Act Amendment Act, passed last session, came into force on January 1, It provides for a national council of education, Dominion classification of inspectors (who will come under the Education Department's control) and an improved salarv scale for teachers. The increases of oav will be noticed on the teachers' cheoues at the end of this month, but the classification of inspectors is much further off, and 1 the readjustment of education districts, cutting them down from thirteen to between seven and nine, is not likely to take place for many months. A Commission is to be set ud to decide the knotty point of new boundaries, and its report is to have Parliament's approval before being effective. Tt will he difficult to set up the Council of Education before the Commission reports, but no doubt an effort will be made to put the new consultative body into action in a couple of mouths.
