NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. THE DUNEDIN TOURNAMENT. CANTERBURY WINS THE BANNER. [Pan Phess Association.] DUNEDIN, January 2. Tho Now Zealand lawn tennis championfihipa were concluded at- Cnrisbrook to-day. In Iho men's singles championship Jennings started of! well against Ollivier. but the latter in the lony run. displayed superior skill and courtcral't, and won the second, third and fourth sets aftor his opponent had . secured tho first. I A splendid content was provided in tlio final for the men's doubles championship, tlio match lasting for two hours and a quarter and being very close throughout, the issue being in doubt until the finish. In tho first set Wallace and Dickie won tho first three [ram* ll and then Ollivier and Wilding won two games. Wallace and Dickie brought the score to 4-2, and then Ollivier and Wilding won another gamo (•1-8). Wallace and Dickies won the nest game, and Ollivier and Wilding won the next three, leaving tho ecoro at 6-5 in their favour. Wallace und Dickie won tho next three, bringing the score to 8-0 and gaining the set. Ollivier and Wilding won the frs-t two games in tho second set. and Wallaceand Dickie the next two, but Ollivier and Wilding won the nest three, bringing tho score to 5-2. Wallace won the next game, but tho next went to Ollivier, making! tho scoro 6-3 and winning tho set. The "third I set. was tho best of tho match and was ' stubbornly contested. Ollivier won the first two games nnd also the fourth, fifth and sixth, the fluid going to Wallace. Wallace and Dickie won tho next fivo and re-CRtn.b-' lished themselves to some «jxtent. Tho n?t finslly oiided with Ollivier in tho lead, the. score being 30-8. Wallace and Dickie 'did well again in tho fourth Bet, and after a hard game they succeeded in winning by seven (Tames to fivo. In the last set, however, they were not so fortunate. They won the first gamo, but Ollivier and Wilding then had a. scries of wins, bringing tho score to 5-1 in their favour. Ollivier and Wilding finally won tho set and wTth it tho match. Wallace and Dickie showed good j combination -and played very solidly, bill Wilding was playing very safely and Ollivier's brilliant volleying and courtcraik enabled him eventually to wear down liia opponents. In the combined championship Goss and Miss Baird had not very much difficulty in disposing of Jennings and Miss Brewster in two sets outright. Miss Baird served very well, her backhand being especially strong. Sho was ably assisted by Goss, who showed grent activity in getting well placed bulls to Miss Brewster. Miss Brewster's s'de lino shots wero well placed, and her cross backhand shots often puzzled her opponents. j Jennings volleyed with deadly accuracy and I his excellent length helped to win many games. Goss having won the first eet Jennings led nt 4-2 in the second but lost tho seventh, eighth and ninth games. Ho won tho tenth, making the score five-all, Goss and Miss Baird won the two succeeding' games, and with them tho match and championship. I In tho first set of tho final of the ladies' siusrlcs Miss Baird placed .really well nnd, holding Miss Gray throughout, won 6-4. In the second and third sets, however, Miss Griy played very steadily nnd executed somo very fine strokes, winning 6-3 aid 6-i.
At the conclusion tho prisca wero presented by Mr T. Begg, president of the New Zealand Association. The banner for the Association gaining most points was won bv Canterbury, with 12$ points. Auck'and being second with 5J points and Hawke's Bav third wifji 3 points The following are results: MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. G. Ol'ivier (Canterbury) beat L. S. Jennings (Otago), 4-6. 6-1. 6-1, 6-1. MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. G. Ollivier and P. S. Wilding (Canterbury) beat A. G. Wallace and C. J. Diokio (Taranaki) 6-8, 6-3, 10-8, 5-7, 6-2. COMBINED CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. W. Gms (Canterbury) nnd Miss B. M. Baird (Hawke's Bay) b?af, L. S. Jonnings fOtago) and Miss L. Browster (T«ranaki), 6-3, 7-5.
WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. [Per Press Association.]
WELLINGTON. January 2.
The Wellington provincial tennis championship was continued at Day's Bay yestorday, but owing to the delay tlie previous day through the drizzling rain in the morning ths matches are still, very backwa-d. Hardly ah? hare, yet reached tho semi-final stare. The tournament will be concluded, it is hoped, next Saturday.

The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's nnmia! handicap tournament was continued on Saturday, when the following events wnro brought to a conclusion—lien's handicap singes (B grade), won by Jacobscn. Ladiea' handicap singles. won by Mrs Paylon. Ladies' Handicap doubles Misses N. MacCormick and Ward.
