Mr T. K. Y. Seddon. M.P.. left Ohristchurch on Saturday for the West Coast. The Hon D. K. Hall, Attorney-Gen-eral of New South "Wales, is a passenger by the Ma ram a, which left Sydney for New Zealand on Saturday.
A cable message from Melbourne announces the death of Mr Jolle.y. member of the Federal House of Representatives for the Granpians seat, and a prominent figure in Labour circles. Amongst the passengers who arrived at Lyttelton by the Aparima yesterday were Mr and' Mrs Lind, who have been engaged in missionary work in India for some years. They left for Dimedin by the Faloona in the afternoon.
It is now definitely announced' that T)r William John Anderson, Assistant Jnspector-G6neral of Schools, will succeed Mr Hogbcn. C.M.G.. as InspectorGeneral aim Director of Education as from February 1 next. ' The Very Rev Father Taylor, S.M. (Superior of the Marist missionaries). will leave for the Chatham Islands by the Himitangi to-day. The object of the visit is to attend to the spiritual needs of the few Roman Catholics who live in the islands. It is seventeen years since a Roman Catholic priest visited the Chatham?.
The following candidates have been declared elected members of the South WaJmakariri River Board :—Christchurch north-west sub-distriot. Mr FFa Jones; north-east sub-district. Mr J. R. Laurcnson; south-west sub-dis-trict. Mr C. Burgess; south-east subdistrict, Mr C. H. Opie; Svdenham subdistrict Mr N. K. Bowdeii; Hea.thcote sub-district, Mr E. Smith; Riccarton sub-district, Mr J. Leslie; Avon subdistrict, Mr W. P. Spencer. Miss G. M. Glanvillo, who has been mistress of the secondary department of the Southbridge District High School for a. number of years, was entertained by old pupils of the secondary department at a moonlight picnic, held at the mouth of the Rakaia River on Wednesday evening. A very pleasant, evening was spent, with games and music. On behalf of the old wrote. Mr Robin Willis presented Miss Glanville with a silver eight-day clock, as a mark of the high esteem in which she is held. Hearty cheers were given for the recipient, who made a suitable reply.
