V.C. FOR A FOOTBALLER.
A London footballer lias won tho' highest form of distinction for a soldier, Hobday, the old Tottenham Hotspur player, having been decorated with the Legion of Honour by the French commander and recommended for the Victoria Cross A reservist in the Northumberland Fusiliers, Hobday, was called up at the commencement of the war, ana lie has since been fighting with the British forces in France. He has been decorated for saving a wounded officer under heavy fire. Holiday, who played as a back, was not a particularly good footballer nnd never gained a place in the Tottenham first team. The Tottenham Club, who have instituted a rifle rango on their ground and have secured a membership of over a thousand residents in North London anxious to learn to shoot, have, by the way, done everything possible to promote recruiting work. The other day Grimsdell, one of their best kalfBacks, who last season took part in one of tlie international trial matches, expressed a desire to enlist and was at once granted permission. With his brother, an amateur member of the Watford Southern League Club, he has joined the Life Guards.
