GOOD PROSPECTS FOB. THE NEW YEAR. Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., states that the West Coast is entering upon the New Year with very bright prospects, and history should he materially altered in 1915. In tho first place, he explained yesterday to ft " Lyttelton Times ” reporter, residents are giving more attention to farming, especially dairy farming. In the North Island, he visited one of the State farms, where ho inquired into tho methods of cheese manufacturing, and ho hopes to ho able Ho make practical use of his knowledge for tho benefit of peoplo m his electorate. He is trying to induce tho Agricultural Department, to send. Miss Davies, an instructress from Wales, to give instructions in cheeso manufacturing in Westland. There has been a slump in sawmilhng, but it is expected that it will disappear with the holidays. Tho disastrous floods liavo been a sad misfortune for residents, especially in tho Grey Valley district, where, Mr Seddon states, the damage" probably has beon underestimated. The Government and the County Council, however, have been asked to help those who liavo suffered, and early in the year probably practical steps will bo taken. , After attending holiday gatherings Mr Seddon will set out to soo what his district wants. For instance, there’ is a proposal to establish a. hospital and provide medical help at Waiutu, about twenty miles from Roof ton. In South Westland and in other places there are similar needs, which can he advantageously discussed by a member with his constituents. Tho tourist season for the Wost Coast is expected to ho a busy oneand all possible facilities now aro given for reaching tho great glaciers and seeing that remarkable country. The mining prospects are very bright.
