' The local grain market has experienced a little more activity this week, especially in regard to wheat. ’Transactions have, however, all been for immediate delivery, there being no buyers at present prices for forward delivery. Millers are content to fill present requireriients and await developments as to the future. Velvet wheat has been sold in lines reaching 2000 •bushels at from 3s 7d to 3s 7]d net at country, stations, while 3s 8d has been given - for very prime samples. For Red chaff the prices, net to growers at country stations have ranged from 3s 6Jd to 3s-7sd, but only a small quantity of that variety has yet readied the market. Very little Tuscan has been seen, and the only sale of looallygrown was taken at 3s 7d net at a country station. South Canterbury Tuscan has been sold here at 3s 6dnet on trucks. So far Marshall’s white has been in the largest supply, and one line of 800 sacks was secured at a country station at 3s; Old net. Other sales of smaller dimensions have been made at 3s 6d and 3s 6jd net, and 3s 7d less commission, all. at country stations. Farmers seem to. have deferred the threshing of oats, giving preference to the handling or wheat. At any rate offerings from the country have not yet reached a liberal scale. There is a go oil deal of difference in the quality of the samples, these ranging from medium to excellent-., For one specially good line of Cartons, reaching over 461 b to the bushel, Is 8d net was given at a country station. Other sales of A grade Gartons have been made at from Is 7d to Is; 7]d not, while. B grade Gartons have changed hands at from. Is Cd to ls 7d net on trUCkS..: ? t A lot of malting barley lias been on offer, but maltsters, having apparently good supplies of last season’s barley, are not at present prepared to operate. One small line was sold at a country station at 2s 3d net. A little business lias been done in Cnpc barley at Is 7id.net on trucks. . Some.transactions in cocksfoot seed are reported at 3Jd, 3Jd and 33d for clean seed, according to weight of samples. The market for potatoes*has.not yet opened, and the only means of disposal has been by consignment to Dunedin on grower’s account. PROPERTY SALE: Messrs W. E. Simos and Co. offered by public auction on Thursday evening (in connection: with Messrs Smith and Bruere) a property in Spreydon known as the Springrove Subdivision. SALE. Pyne and Co. .report having offered for sale by auction at their rooms, on Saturday,' February 28, 170 acres of first-class land ;at Halswell, on behalf of Mr P. Burke... The property was divided into three farms of 70, 60 and 40 acres respectively. Lot 1, the homestead block comprising 70 acres, was sold under good competition to Mr W. Roberts (Spreydon) at ■ £7O per acre. Lot 2, comprising 40 acres without buildings, was passed at £SB .per acre, and Lot 3, 60 acres, passed at the same price. LAND SALE. The National Mortgage and Agency Compnny, Ltd., in conjunction with Messrs Friedlandor Bros,, Ltd.-, held an important auction sale of land in their rooms on Saturday afternoon, when a large number of farmers and others attended. The sale was held on behalf of the estates of the late Mr Mathew Stitt and Mr J. R. Hart. The land submitted comprised 1053 acres, divided, into nine farms, ranging in area from 77 to 205 acres,. known as the Blackbridge farm, situated about ten miles from Ashburton, and was originally part of the noted Longbeach Estate. The first lot submitted was a block of 77 acres, with the option of taking- an adjoining block of 111 acres. Bidding started at £24 an acre and quickly rose to £29, at which figure it was passed in.. The next lot was a block of 84 acres, with the option of taking an adjoining block of 85 acres, and it was sold at £33 per acre, the purchaser being Mr AV, T. Stevens, of Lowcliffe. A block of 140 acres was passed at £3l per acre,. while another block of 142 acres was sold at £32 an acre to Mr AV. Ellery, of Eiffelton. The remaining lots failed to find buyers by auction. , . .
