CONDENSED CORRESPONDENCE.
“ Progress ” writes -.--“ In answer to Archbishcp Redwood’s tirade against Socialism I would point out that according to official accounts there are in Dublin over twenty-one thousand families living in one-room tenements; also that- the death into of young children in the same city is 140 per 10GO, overcrowding and starvation being ' the causes. It. is the veriest-'cant to fulminate against Socialism while the above conditions exist.”
■ ‘ Plain Truth.” replying to C. R. N. Alackie. savs that in countries where genuine conscription obtains it is accepted by- all classes as part of their life, and is resented no more than compulsory attendance at schools. He believes that the making of armaments is a factor for peace, as the mere deadly and numerous the weapons the greater the disinclination of any nation to embark on war. “Plain Truth” concludes Can Mr Mackie shut his eyes to the fact that so surely as any nation neglects the elementary duty of defence, so surely does that nation go to the wall and become a vassal state or a nonentity among the other nations?”
