FIRES.
OUTBREAK IN DUNEDIN. TAILORING . PREMISES GUTTED. [Prat Press Association.] DUNEDIN, February 28.. Messrs J.-and J. Arthur’s tailoring workshop was completely gutted by fire at 3.15 o’clock this morning. The brigade did excellent work, and. after a great fight managed to confine the flames to the workshop, thus saving a. block of wooden buildings, mostly slums. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. • A stiff sou’-wester was blowing when the constable passed at 2.50 a.m., and there was no sign of fire, but twenty minutes later ho heard the crackling and saw' smoke and flames issuing from the building. Forty persons have been thrown out of employment. 'i tie insurances are in the Royal Exchange for £1200;' the approximate damage is £IOOO. SHOP AND DWELLING BURNED. [Pee Press Association.] TIMARU, March' 1. This morning Mr A. C. Red/,lie, a shopkeeper on the outskirts of the town, being unwell, went to the shop for some medicine. He fainted and dropped his lamp, which set fire to tho floor. He recovered in timo to escape and call the neighbours who, as it was thought, put the firo out. Presently, however, tho fire broke out again and tho .shop ahd dwelling were gutted.
