A start will be made to-day with the autumn meeting of the Victoria Racing Club. The programme includes the Newuiarkot Handicap, tho leading sprint. event ol Australia; St Lcger Stakes, for. throe-vear-olds; Ascot Yalo Stakes, for t.wo-ycar-olds; and the' Essendob Stakes.' a’ weight-for-age race of one mile and a half. Nominations closed last night for the two leading handicaps at the aufumu meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club, forty-six horses hSing -entered for the Great Easter Handicap and thirty-four for tho Great Autumn. Noi-th Island stables are strongly represented in both events. Tho acceptances received Inst night for tho Akaroa County Racing Chib’s meeting were exceptionally good, - and 7 record fields may be expected at Motukarara on Thursday-

Goldie, who won the principal event at the Wanganui Trotting Chib’s meeting yesterday, was bred at New Brighton by Mr W. Kerr, for .whom he won throe races; while yesterday’s success was his second for Ills present, owner. These are tho only races in which ho has started. Goldie is by Wildwood Junior—Sing Sir.ir, Jiv- Cycle. Tho Soult gelding Aim well, who'ban been very sore- for some time past, appears to bo getting worse. . Kis -off’foro fetlock is very much enlarged, and it is doubtful if-he will stand'the strain of much more galloping. The six ra'ces decided on the first day of tho Victoria Amateur Turf Club's autumn mooting ibis month were .won hv horses bred in New South Wales, but-Popinjay was the only one of tho six owned in State. Two of the winners were sired by Minister, and ho had two more'on the second dav of tho meeting, so that there is likely to be n great rush for liis yearlings at the Sydney sales at Easter.
