SIR JOHN TENNIEL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, February 26. The death is announced of Sir John Tenniel, the famous “Punch” artist. (Sir John Tenniel was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. He joined the staff of “Punch” in 1851, retiring in 1901.)

MR W. PETTIE, GISBORNE. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 27. Mr William Pettie, an ex-Mayor of Gisborne, and a member of the Gisborne bowling team, who was taking part in the Exhibition tournament, died suddenly this morning. He was apparently bright and well yesterday, and played with his team till late in the afternoon. He had 6upper at the hotel, and was taken ill at 4 a.m. Mr Pettie received medical attendance, but died two hours later. The cause of death was apparently heart weakness.
