RAILWAY EXCURSION FARES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—How is it that the Ashburton public are not allowed railway excursion fares to Christchurch on Friday,' the 27th instant, being the first day of the cricket match between the Canterbury Eleven and Australian Eleven? It seems that Saturday, the 28th instant is the onjv day on which excursion fares are allowed from Ashburton and should any person or persons from Ashburton wish to see the commencement of the match on the 27th they must pay the full fare as by waiting for the ‘excursion fares on tho 28th they would miss seeing the first day’s play. I understand the cheaper rates were intended for those wishing to see the whole of tho match and not merely a portion of the play. Is this treating the Ashburton public fairly?—l am, etc..
