The Wahine will be the ferry steamer to-day. This morning the Monowai will arrive from the north and sail later for Dunedin. The Kittawa left Greymouth yesterday and is due tomorrow with coal and timber. The Flora will arrive to-day to ioad for the north. ■ The Kowhai was due to leave Gisborne yesterday with sheep for Lyttelton. She will return to Picton. The Rakahoa 'is .also. on her way south with a consignment of sheep from Hawke’s Bay. The Karori is also expected to load a similar freight next week. TWO STEAMERS FROM CHATHAMS. -HS STORMY VOYAGES. The steamers Himitangi and Taviuni ar,tried .from the Chatham Islands early yesterday, after year stormy passages. ■■*;;The Himitangi' leftr'Wellington on Febru--19, at 2.35 n.m., and experienced light variable winds until her arrival at Waitangi -pn . February 21,' at 10.10 -a.m. Her cargo . was landed that day, after which gear was flitod up for cattle. At 6 a.m. Ahe following' day the loading of cattle in .bfijts was begun, and at 4 p.m. 74 head JlaS been taken on board. The vessel then ■tailed -for Pitt Island. On her arrival Bhe •'lfcfcded 300 sheep and then sailed on the return journey to New Zealand. She had a ’.Very rough voyage, and many seas were shipped on the fore-deck. On Thursday the conditions were so bad that the vessel was hove-to. At 8 a.m. the wind raged with cyclonic force, raising a mountainous sea jmd making, the live stock uncomfortable, ""fbe conditions were better at 4 p.m., and lator Akaroa was sighted. Owing .10.1. the bad weather, about twenty sheep, besides four head of cattle, were lost. The. . Hpnitnngi left again for the Chatham Islands, last evening. .r-'"On her run from Dunedin to Pitt Island, •|S3jathams, the s.s. Taviuni experienced fine ’weather, and completed her load of over *3OOO sheep at 3 p.m. on Tuesday last, eailthen for Lyttelton. At first a strong BOTth-west wind blow, accompanied by heavy Ypin. Tho following day the wind-changed increased in velocity, and at midnight ,oxi; Wednesday a, howling southerly “ buster” raged, causing the ship to roll heavily. . -Atf an early hour on Thursday tho wind Veered to tho south-south-west, with a high, (jea. The Taviuni rolled and tossed about ,considerably, and the speed was reduced to /about four.knots per hour, just sufficient to "keep way on the vessel. In spile of the adverse conditions- only four sheep were jlost out of over 3000. Godley Head was Sighted at 11 p.m. on Thursday night, and -it. an early hour yesterday tho steamer anchored in the stream. , After discharging ,i)'er freight, the Taviuni left last night for 4>the islands for a load of sheep for Timaru.

At about 4 p.m. to-day tho New Zealand Shipping Compnnv’s linor Ruapehu will sail ■from port for Wellington, where sho will > . complete loading cargo for London. During her stay here the vessel loaded lnrgo quantities of frozen moat, dairy produce and tallow. ' •■.-After a somewhat protracted passage from Westport, the Kaituna arrived in port earlv
yesterday morning. During Thursday’s gale the vessel was delayed considerably, twenty-five hours being occupied from Capo Campbell to Lyttelton. The Kahuna is expected to sail for Dunedin to-night. To-morrow morning the Tyeer Line Company’s Star of Australia is due to sail from Wellington for Lyttelton, and should arrive late in the evening or early Monday morning. Cheese, frozen meat and other lines will be lifted here. The Federal and Shire Lino steamer Banffshire, which will inaugurate the new service between Wellington and Boeton, left Sydney on Wednesday for New Zealand. She should arrive at Wellington on Monday. The Shaw, Saville and Albion Company’s liner Rangatira, whioh arrived at Wellington on Thursday from London, is duo in Lyttelton on Tuesday next in continuation of discharge of her London cargo, -The vessel is under the command of Captain R. D. Lowden, and his officers are:—First officer, Mr J. Wilson: second, Mr H. Falconer; third, Mr C. Woods; fourth, Mr S. P. R. White; fifth, Mr H. E. F.
