MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

An executive meeting of tho North Canterbury School Committees’ Association was held on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of members and Mr W. C. Large (president) occupied the chair. Correspondence from the Board of Education, Technical College, Opawa School Committee and Redciifl's School was read. Tho following deputation was elected to wait upon the Opawa School Committee on March 9:—Messrs J. Butterfield, C. Y. Harvey and W. 0. Large. The following resolution was passed, to bo sent on to the Board.—“ That, failing tho Board providing a better system of heating schools in view of the increased cost of fuel, the Board bo respectfully requested to consider tho purchase of coal in bulk and to supply the same to school committees at cost price.” A long discussion took place on the question of supplying coal. One member said, “The coal bill keeps us in debt all the year.” A social was hold in the Marshland Hall in aid of tho coming bazaar in connection with tho Methodist Church. Misses Debbie and Wilson, and Mr L. Wilson contributed vocal items, and Miss Beryl Wilkinson and Mr Walters recitations. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal City of Norwich Lodge. No. 4356, 1.0.0. F., was held on Monday, N.G. Brother Ryder, presiding over a fair attendance. A vote of condolence was passed to the widow of a late brother of the Lodge. Brother Turner, delegate to the United Friendly Society’s Benevolent Association, gave a report on the business done at the last meeting. A committee was appointed to make arrangements for the entertainment of tho delegates attending the annual district meeting to be held in Lyttelton. D.P.G.M. Brother W. T. Porter issued an invitatiou to the members and their friends to a social to be held in the Excelsior Hall after the District meeting. The receipts for tho evening amounted to £4B los 2d.
