THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS COURSE. )3 . DEMONSTRATION DAY AT LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL. ' ' At the Lincoln District, High School U yesterday a Demonstration dDay ” was. held in connection with the rural, courses now conducted by the Educa-dmi-tion Board in secondary schools. courses have been established in District High Schools in this district, *:' * under the direction of Mr A. H. R. l-’es Amess, and their object is to give tha.Yis* pupils in country districts practical, training of the kind most likely" prove useful, to them in after life. . There was an attendance of aboii*’ ’, . seventy residents, including many..raw’ - mers. Amongst tliose present wers Air It. Alexander, principal of Lincoln . College of Agriculture, and Mr A: Macphorson, Government Fields Instructor, who expressed themselves as highly' * pleased with the work that was being ... done.- - ■ ' , *.\ * ;■* • ijY*' At Lincoln High’ School the course has now been established, about threeh years, and tliose who attended yester-• day’s demonstration were shown the results of many interesting experiments:'; \ The students'were at work in the la- f boratory, conducting milk tests, -in which much interest was manifested by ; the visitors. Tho main experimental plot this year is devoted to potatoes, being sown in “ Southland Up-to-date,” while in smaller plots experiments in. connection - with" a ! number- of other - varieties of potato are being conducted. About three acres in all are sown in potatoes. Another section" of the experimental work is contained in the plots'devoted to experiments, in foddevt Y'S crops. About thirty varieties,of maize, and plots of silver beet; lucerne, mangels and turnips, in several varieties, and plots of grass of various kinds, are included in the class’s operations. . . *.'
