RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE TREYTHAM MEETING. YESTERDAY'S COMPETITIONS. (Per Phkss Association.] < TRENTHAM, February 27. During the night the weather cleared, and the morning, broke beautifully fine for the second day's shooting. Bright sunshine continued all day: .. A light loft wind. blow from the north, but was not troublesome except to those marksmen who - shot towards, the conclusion of the 300yds in the Opening Match (C series;, with which the proceedings commenced'. The ranges' competed at were 300yds, 500yds and GOOyds, but the scores do not count for the Belt. Aided by a. good light and pleasant weather conditions, some good cards were returned, possibles at the SpOyds being, made by, Cameron (Opaki) and Captain Matheson '(Wellington), and at the 800yds by Barkley (Suburbs), King (Opaki), Head (Akar’ana), Ml Murray (To Awamutu) and Hunt (Suburbs). At the GOOyds. range no possibles were recorded, but Masefield-(Sounds), maintaining a good average score, won with a total of 101, made up as follows: 34, 34. 33. Henderson, a fellow club member of t.he winner, . was -next with 99. and Guy, of Kapor.ga, handed in the third card, also 99. Evidently this last range proved a formidable hurdle lor some good shots,,such ns Head and King,' ns'none of those who scored possibles at the earlier.ranges were included amongst the fust nine. Towards midday the wind had increased in force, and this doubtless proved a factor in the final Tesnlt.
. Shortly after one o'clock the squads marched out to five in the Auckland Miatch, the first counting for the. Belt, and there wns some fine individual shooting. F. A. Ching (R.N.Z.A., lato of Lyttelton) wound' up his shoot at the first range with 48, an outer under the possible, while at the 500yds he planted on ten-consecutive bulls, his total being 98. M’lntosh. one of the famous Opaki team, returned a card of 97 (48 and 49 respectively). White;’- of Christchurch, who made the possible at the- : longer Tange, scored 46 at 300yds. Chceseman (Tuamarina) with 40 and 49. Hunt (Suburbs) 47 and 48, M’Grogor (Opaki) 48 and 40, and Simonds (Blenheim) 45 and the possible, each scored 95. Montgomery (Staff), R. King, H. Loveday, Mervillo (Aknroa) and Hunt (Dunedin) each rotired with a. total of 94. - W. Duncan (Dcuuiston) and Devore scored 93 each.
