A sale covering 10,000 sheep was held yesterday at Mr AV. Broughton’s Island Hills yards when the most of the stock was from that estate with entries from Messrs J. D. M’Cracken, W. M’lntosh, S. Townend, C. H. Ensor and A. Kennedy. After the rain of the previous night, which was equal to one inch, tho country looked very fresh and it was. a good augury for the sale, which was conducted in cool weather since there was a deposit of snow on some of the adjacent mountain tops. The last great sale at White Rock was on. March 26, 1908. On that occasion after 40,000 acres of the estate had been sold 25,000 sheep were put under the hammer. Prices then obtained serving as a comparison with the present sale were: —Half-bred two-tooths 16s lid, four and six-tooths 18s,< six-tooth merino ewes 10s 9d, twotooth Corriedale ewes 20s to 21s, and eight-tooths 18s to 20s. i Mr C. H. Ensor after the reading of conditions of sale said Mr Broughton’s yards were intended to be available for periodical sales in which the settlers of the district would be able to deal direct with those requiring sheep without the intervention of the dealer. ,

AUCTION SALE OF CITY LAND. The well-known block of land fronting Latimer Square, Hereford and Worcester Streets, for so many years the prpperty of the late Mr WynnWilliams, was submitted to public auction yesterday by Mr Charles Clark. The land was subdivided into nineteen sections, eight fronting Latimer Square, four fronting Worcester Street, and seven fronting Hereford Street.
