MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The quarterly meeting of the Ivy of Linwood Lodge, No. 13, U.A.0.D., was held in the Orange Hall, Worcester Street, on Monday, when Arch Druid Bro Brewer presided over a very large attendance. The half-yearly balancesheet and auditor’s report were adopted. It was decided that a syllabus should be drawn up fer social evenings during tho coming winter months. Past Grand President Bro Burgess presented Bro Hyphns with a pipe for securing the largest number of new members during the last half-year. Proposed amendments to the rules were then discussed. The Hope of Christchurch Lodge, 1.0.G.T., held its usual meeting in the Manchester Chambers on Tuesday. Brother J. Eaton presiding. Greetings were receiv'd from the Pride of Tilbury and Islington Lodges, London, also Auckland Ledges. The District Lodge report was given by Sister Gimmell.D.S.J.W. Tho following members contributed items :—Sisters Bowers, Thomas, Bastion, M. Sweney, R. Chamberlain, 0. Conner. R. Ron”cl and Brothers Burrows, Gimmell and Eaton. The Addington Methodist Band of Hope Society held its first meeting of the year in the schoolroom on Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance. Gramophone selections wore given by Mr 0. Atkinson, and other items were contributed by Misses 11. Richards and I.; Wilson, and Messrs W. Fehsenfeld and A. Cade. Mr J. H. Jones gave an address on the effect of alcohol on the heart. At the conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Jones and Atkinson for the part they had taken in supplying the programme. Several pledges were signed.
