There is tin the city of Mexico a thieves’ market, in which stolen goods are publicly offered for sale. It occupies an entire square. Here may be found everything that is portable, from a telescope to a ring, a silk dress; or a pair of stockings, and the articles are sold at about one-fifth of their actual value- The thieves do not sell the goods openly, for that would be dishonest in the estimation of the Mexicans, but the sellers are those who purchase secretly from the thieves.
