BOARD OF AGRICULTURE. [Per Press HASTINGS, February 25. At the cool stores banquet last night, the Right. Hon W. F. Massey, Pnmo Minister, stated that Mr J. G. Wilson, of Rangitikei, had been asked to accept the presidency of the Board of and a gentleman in the South Island ijvould be offered the vice-presidency. v Two other appointments were to be made. • The experiment tried in South Canterbury of providing farms for labourers who paid a deposit of £25 and the balance in twenty-five years had been a great success. A similar experiment would be made m Masterton, where land had been purchased. Referring to immigration, Mr Mm*. sey said that the Government would continue its policy of attracting the right class of immigrants to assist 1o bear the burden of taxation, and get a good cjass of settlers on the land. With reference to harnessing water power, he stated that where the Government was not able to utilise rivers ' "or streams for electricity or other purposes, local bodies should be given opportunity to do so. {The Government would not follow a dog-in-the-manger policy.
