A start will ~be made to-day with/ the autumn meeting of tho Wanganui Jockey Club.. A cable message from Sydney states that the stallion Haut ;Brion dropped dead. Haut Brion, who was bred in England in IS9O, was by St Simon—Bonnie Lassie, and ho was imported to Australia by Mr S. Hordern in 1896. He sired a large number of winners, prominent among them being - Hautvilliers, Hautboy, Hauletto, Sweet Nell, Bee Bee, Hautain, Istria and Collarit. After the G-overnor's Handicap at the Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting yesterday, the stewards held an inquiry into the running of Craibwood, who dead-heated with Kirikiriroa, and who earlier in the day ran nowhere in the Manukau Handicap. The owner, W. Angus, stated that he rode the horse him«elf in the first race, but could do nothing with him. In the second race tho horse was ridden by Julian, who was the enly rider who cculd do anything with him. The stewards decided to warn Angus that in future they would hold him or any other rider responsible fcr a horse's performance, if he took the risk of putting up an inferior horseman. The stallion St Paul, by St Lcger—Satanella, died ■in Hawerr. a few days ago.' He was bred in Auckland.by the late Mr W. Percival in 1893, and was a very successful performer. He won,the Avondalo Cup three years in succession, tho third time when carrying lOst 81b\ and his other victories included tho Auckland Welcome Stakes, Foal Stakes and Champagne Stakes as a two-year- ■ old; Wanganui Derby, Auckland Guineas, Auckland Autumn Handicap and Wellington Autumn Handicap as a four-year-old; Canterbury Metropolitan Handicap, Auckland Racine Club Haridicap, Wellington Racing Club Handicap, Wanganui Stakes and Auckland St George. Handicap as a five-year-old. He had limited opportunities at the stud, and though he sired a number of winners, he left nothing of good class, Mr H. F, Nieoll, who has for some years maintained one of the largest trotting establishments in. the dominion, has decided to relinquish his connection with tho sport, I and it is. understood that the whole of his horses will be disposed of at auction at an early date, This will- be a very important sale, as the stock, includes horses in training, besides stallions, brood mares and young ones. The Austrnlian trotting a-elding, Brooklyn, by Prince Harold—Hsrd Times, who beat a smart field in the Stewards' Hnndicno at the 'New Zealand M'tropo'itan Club's meeting this month, will be sbipred to Sydney in a few days, in order to tn.ke part, in tho Sydney.
