STREET WIDENING.

WELLINGTON, February 24. The By-laws Committee of tho City Council waited on the Hon F. H. D. Bell, Minister of Internal Affair?, regarding the street widening section of the Public Works Act. The deputation stated that tho operation of the section had not resulted in any street being widened, and asked that the Council be given tho powers which were now enjoyed by the Government to exempt any street from the operation of tho statute.

Mr Bell said lie had been considering the matter. He proposed, with the approval of his colleagues, to bring down an Amendment Act in that direction next session.
