Oreti, Captain Campbell, arrived from Wellington on Saturday afternoon, and leaves to-day for Napier, Gisborne, Taaranga, and Auckland. Mr C. W. Turner’s barque Thurso, Captain Sadden, from Calcutta, .was signalled yesterday often oon, and would reach the port last night. The St Eilda arrived from Wanganui at lam. yesterday with a load of horses. She saila for Dunedin to day. The b.b Hawea, Captain Kennedy, arrived from Mannkan and way porti on Saturday morning, and left for Wellington and Nelson at 9 30 p m. As will be seen above, several vessels bound to coastal and other port* left the harbour on Saturday and yesterday. All accounts and claims against the City of Hankin must be seat la to Messrs F. Cunningham and Co., her agents, by noon to-day, and shippers are requested to present bills of lading by the same time.
A fresh sou’-wester sprang np on Saturday evening, and increased in strength through the night, accompanied by heavy rain. It continued to blow hard all day yesterday, with occasional rain squalls, and showed but little signs of taking off last evening. The schooner Torea went out for a short cruise in the harbour on Saturday afternoon. In addition to several Jricnds, Captain Grundy very kindly took a number of the children at the Orphanage. They were regaled with cakes, lollies, Ac., and evidently enjoyed their sail immensely. On leaving the -schooner the children gave three hearty cheers for her genial and kind-hearted master, as well as for her owner end Mr 8. B. Webb, who had contributed greatly in making the outing enjoyable. THE LOCH DEE, FEOM LONDON. The barque Loch Dee, Captain Black, arrived from London at 7 a.m. yesterday. The Loch Dee brings 26 passengers all told, besides a fall general cargo, and comes consigned to the New Zealand Shipping -’o. Hot passengers have all arrived in good health, and are much pleased with the kind and courteous treatment they have met with on the passage out, which has occupied 94 days. No sickness was experienced, though the passage was not marked by the most favourable weather. The vessel, which came into port in excellent order, will bo entered at the Customs this morning.
