NORTH RAKAIA BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.
A meeting was held at Southbridge on Thursday ; present—Messrs J. B. Campbell (in the "chair), E. J. Lee, W. Bishop, S. For3ytb, and Job Osborne. Correspondence was read Frotu the sgent of the Union Bank, noting names and eignatures of members of the Board. From Messrs Harper and Co., declining to receive money on deposit. sVoin the Mutual Benefit Building and Investment Society, offering 5 per cent for £1203 for 12 months. The Chairman stated that ths offer had been accepted and the money duly deposited. From Mr W. A. Pearco applying to have his rates remitted. The Board considered that leniency was hardly necessary, and decided that the application be refused. From Mr Peter Campbell, offering £lO per annum for ten years, for right to graze part of reserve 1243. The Board nob being able to deal privately for a definite period with their reserves declined the offer. From Mr Edwin White complaining that the r&serres leased to him contained not one half the quantity originally surveyed, and asking «itber to have his leaue cancelled or the roat reduced to £4O per annum. Tho Board considered that as they had entered an action against one of their tenants for recovering his, Mr White's application could not be considered at the present. From Messrs Harpw and Co., re claim of Mr Allan for rent. Mr Anderson's application for transfer of reserve 2381 a, for a portion of reserve 1376, was reconsidered, and it was agreed to comply with request contained in bis letter of Dec. 2, all expenses of releitse and conveyance to ba borne by him. The Secretary reportad that since the previous meeting ha had collected and paid into the Bank £lO2 4* 61 rent account, and £ll6 rate account; th-at efler paying accounts passed at the previous meeting, interest on debentures, and depositing £I2OO. there remained an overdraft of £l4B 4s lid. The report on the condition of the river showed that works wore urgently needed at the out-works ou Gallagher's Heietve, and adjoining Knyvett'e blue-gums. In both places the river was tearing away the old protections, and leaving the frontages so that it would before long be almost impossible to effect any repairs without incurring con-
eidtrable additional expense. j 'J bd Board doterrnined to visit both places on the following day, and to decide on the ground what works it would bs desirable to attempt 'Xhe decretary was instructed (o write to Mr Hur*t, asking bim what land be contemplated offering in exchange for that portion of reserve 1376 batween rural section 28,542 and the blue gum plantation known as hi* wether paddock; also to advertise in the Mlesmere Guardian for preparing a valuation list of the North Kakaia Board of Conservators' District; tenders to be returnable in a week. Members' honoraria from Maroh 24r, 1880, to Doc. 5, 1881, and amounting to £l7 10s, ware examined and passed for payment. r Jho Secretary was instructed to enter an action against soma of the defaulting ratepayers, who do not seem to have taken any notice of the repeated applications for payment.
