AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

An ordinary monthly meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held yesterday afternoon; present —Messrs J. B. Hill, President fin the chair), W. Boag, J. Fergusson, J. Gilmour, J. Mann, A. W. Money, E. Sutherland, W. Norman, T. Bruce, J. Walls, J. Anderson, junr., and J. M'Beath. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £l9 13s 3d were passed for payment. COBBEBPONDENOB. A letter was read from the Sydenham Borough Council, enclosing an account of £4, for watering Colombo road on the Show day, and asking the Association to contribute towards the cost. Mr Norman said he had told the Town Clerk on the evening before that he considered the road was moist enough, as there had been a little rain. Mr Sutherland and other members spoke in favour of the Association contributing to the cost, and it was resolved on the motion of Mr Sutherland, seconded by Mr Money, to pay half the amount. OBASfI SEED STBIrPBB TBIAL. The report of the judges of the recent grass seed stripper trial, particulars of whioh have already been published, waß read. BAM BAIB. It was decided that the Bam Fair for 1862 should be held on Msrch 23 and 24. BBAPBB AHD BISDBE TBIAL. The Secretary read the conditions for the proposed trial of reapers and binders, to be held at Mr Boag's farm at Burnside. The conditions provided, among other matters, for two classes, for wiro and twine binders respectively, a gold medal to be awarded to the beet, and a certificate to the socond machine in each clais. There were to bo eight judges, five practical farmers and tnree meobanical experts. Baoh machine to cut six acres of wheat, oats or barley. No expert to be allowed to drive or go near the maobme unless in case of accident. Other regulations as to time, &0., were appended. Work to commence at 9 a.m. The Secretary, in answer to a question,

said that eight maohioos, if not ten, were likely to compete. Some of the probable competitors objected to the price of tho binders being taken into consideration, as well as to the weight of twine or wiro required per acre being takon account of. The Committee proccoded to oonsider tho conditions on which points were to be awarded. It was deoided not to take acoount of the prices in awarding tho points, nor of tho weight of twino or wire required per acre. The remainder of the conditions wore approved. Mr Hill hore requested to be allowed to vacate the chair on acoount of another engagement, and Mr T. Bruce woe voted to the chair. Tho Oommittoo then procoedod to oleot judges for tho trial. It was resolved to ask tho following gentlemen to act as marshals:—Messrs Gilmour, Mann, Walls, M'Beath, Bruce, Sutherland, Ferguson, Honderson, Money, J. Gebbie, P. Duncan, 8. Garforth, J. Miln, Boss, and D. Thomas. ... It was agreed that the trial should take place on or about Jan. 17, the exact date to bo fixed shortly. It was deoided that no horsemen should be allowed in the paddook in which the t rial was being hold, and that the puMio should not be allowed to follow the machines until eleven o'clock. MB DUNCAN'S TOBTBAIT. It was resolved, on tho motion of Mr Norman, to present one of tho two portraits of the late Mr A. Dunoan in the possession of the Association to Mrs Duncan, and that she be allowed to take hor ohoico of the piotures. This ooncluded the business, and the meet: ing terminated.
