Tha Helen Scott is an iron vessel, built in 1863 for the Indian trade, commai»ded by Captain Goldsworthy, and having as officers—Mr T. W. Trick, chief; and Mr Gold-worthy, third. She left London deeply laden on August 19 ; experienced very heavy weather in the Channel, her decks being flooded by the heavy seas that broke over her, and the passengers' quarters aft were also completely flooded, the crew having to ha ret to work to get the division clear of water. The vessel laboured very heavily during the heavy weather experienced in the Channel, and Eubaequently rolled bo heavily that the foretop-gallantmaat was carried away. On Sept 22 the vessel called in at St Vincent to toed a nephew of the owner, who had been sufferinr from sickness for some time. There the barque collided with H.M.S. Tamar. and remained repairing the damage done until Sept. 27. Crossed the Equator on Oct. 13 in four west, having met ■with poor sorttveast. trades; passed the Cape on Nov. 10, and ran down the easting between it and 43 south, the meridian of Cape Leuwin being; crossed on Deo. 10, and that of Tasmania on Deo. 20. Passed the Snsres on Dec 24, and experienced variable head winds up the coart. The Helen Soott was entered iu at the Customs yesterday by her agents, the N.Z. Shipping Company.

Jan 3. COLLISION AT APOLLO BAT. On Sunday afternoori, on the arrival off the Western Steam Havig&tion Company's s.s. Nelson from Werrnaznbool, new* was received of a collision which bad occurred at *n early hour that Morning between that vessel and the s.s. Julia Percy, off Apcllo B jy. On Saturday afternoon the latter steamer left here for the western pons, with ■bout 150 pasneßgers on board, and shortly before two o'clock on Sunday morning, when off Apollo Bay, tbi* side of Caps Otv»ay, whilst attempting to cross the bow of the s.s. RtMan. she was run into. Fr m the accounts to hand tt appears that dome of the paeKenKers on board the Julia Percy, when the collision occurred, jumped on board the Nels&n, and one mac shtued Steere was rather seriously injured by irtttiug crushed between the two vessels. Another man named Thomas Cutler, an old resident of Collingwood, is reported to be missing, and it is surmised that ho fell into the sea and was drowned whilst attempting to jump from tbe Julia Percy to the Nelson. The Steam Narin&tlon Company have been very free from accident of any sind since the year 1860, when the s.s. Champion was run info by the s.s.' Xadybird. Stiasge to say the c&llUlon on that occasion also occurred off Apollo Bay, but it was unfortunately attended with serious loss of li». Both the tteeraers Darned bad on board » largo number of passengers, and as the s.s. Champion foundered a few minutes after tho collision a good many lives were lost. With regard to the present disaster,'tbe Kelson seems to have sustained the greatest inj ary. 8H struck the J ulin Percy amid, ships juet absft the funnel, hod both her bows stove in. and tho stem curried away j whilst tho Julia Percy bad sume of her bolts started and plates bent. 'lhe dtmago was not sufficient to prevent the vessels resuming their respective wanes, tho Nelson having arrived here as stated on Sunday afternoon, whilst tbe Julia Percy reached Portland tho some night.
