LANCASTER PARK ▼. PHC3NIX 0.0. This match came to an end yesterday, and resulted in a decisive win for Lancaster Park, in one innings, with 26 rum to spare. The victory was all the mora croditablo, inasmuch as the batting of Motors Davonport and Spring on the other side was of a high order. The former undoubtedly possesses the strongest defence of any Dunedin batsman who has visited Ohristohuroh for some years past, while Mr Spring has during tho past fortnight repeatedly shown himself a fine, free hitter. Mr llarris also scored woll in both innings, but his runs, though usoful to his side, were not ninHo in tho etylo of tho other two players. Mr Davenport, in addition to being so good a bat, showed himself an ex« oollent field, an accomplishment which was certainly not ehared in by all his comrades. As on all-round pliyer, in short, he oannot be far off being tho beat man in tho southern Province His style of batting, we might montion, is correct and patient to a degree, and though not powerful is easy, and, for a left-hander, remarkably taking. Tho bowling of tho Lancastrians web straight throughout, and a great contrast to that of tho Wanderers on Monday. Score aod analysis : LANCASTER PARK. E. C. J.
