ST ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An adjourned meeting of the St Albans Borough Council was held at the Avon Road Board office, Pap&uui at 7.80 o'olock last evening; present—His Worship tho Mayor, and Councillors Motion, Bull, Moor, Money, Hountree, Blakiston, Mann, and Dickenson. APrOISMBHT OP OFFICSEB. His Worship called attention to the necessity of the Council taking action in reference to tho Borough valuation. It was optional with them either to adopt the previous valuation roll of tho Avon Road Board or appoint some person to perform a new valuation of the rateable property within the Borough. Councillor Matson proposed—"lhat Mr Beata;m be appointed valuator for the rateable propertv within tho Borough." He considered lhat "as Mr Beatson was engaged in valuing the whole of the Avon District-in-clusive of the Borough-for tho Road Beard, ke would bo most competent to prepare a valuation. Tho motion was seconded by Councillor Moor, and carried unanimously. _ Oouneiller Matson placed before the Council the result of some enquiries he had made with reference to the income and expenditure in salaries of the Sydenham Borough Council. Be propoted-" 1 hat Mr W. F. Beatson be appointed to the offices of Town Clerk, Surveyor, Collector, and Treasurer to the Municipality, at a salary of £350 per annum, subject to three month*' notice on either side." Councillor Dickenson seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr Beatson cxpreesoi his willingness to accept the appointment. Councillor Blakiston called attention to the necessity of the Council appointing a solicitor, and niter a slight conversational discussion the matter was deferred to a future meeting. DATB 0? MEBTISO. It wat resolved that the Council at its ruing, adjourn to Monday, Jan. 16, and meet every alternate Monday from that date. COMMIMBBS. The following Committees were appointed: —Finance and By-laws—Councillors Matson, Turner, and Blakuton ; Works, Sanitary, and Lighting—Councillors Money, Dickenson, and Bull, The Mayor to be i» member of each Committee ex officio. SEAL. It was resolved that the Finance Committee bo requested to furnish a design for a common *cal for the Borough. ! THE COUNCIL AKD THB BOAD BOARD. It Kr.s proposed by Councillor Moor, and seconded by Councillor Bull—" That the Fin at cp Committee be authorised to confer witf. the Avon Boad Board, with a view to arranging for a division of properties, rates, A-v., bf.wean the Council and the Boad Board." The motion was carried unanimously. Councillor Mateen gave notice that he would move at the next meeting —" That the Council proceed to appoint a banker." After the transaction of some routine business, the Council adjourned.
