A splendid race; and, considering that it was run in a gale of wind, the time was very fair—smin lOsec. SHEFFIELD. These annual sports were held on Monday, and although the attendance of the public was, perhaps, slightly below that of last year, the number and quality of the entries fully compensated for any deficiency in this direction. Each event of the day was, without exception, well contested; and the only misunderstanding that occurred was one over the walking match. This arose through three out of the four competitors having rather an exaggerated notion of what walking consisted in; but the difficulty was settled satisfactorily to outsiders at least, by f he judges awarding the prize to the last, and only competitor who walked. The " novelty," a step dance, was hardly so successful as expected; but the Egg and Spoon Bace v?as entirely so. The arrangements of the Committee were good, and the judges' decisions seemed to have general approval Good order prevailed throughout the day. Mr Fanagan held the refreshment stall.
