Mr* Slim Garfield, mother of the late President, is stopping with her daughter at Solon, Ohio, and receives a large number of letters of condolence daily. She is more cheerful than might be expected, takes much interest in politics, and is in good health. The Chinese gunboat Flau Flaw, at Dong-tszo-zan recently, had, with two other gunboats, an engagement with pirates, of whom upward of 200 either were slain or drowned themselves, Nine were captured alive and about 70 escaped. Eleven pirate boats wore taken. The trial of the 22 Nihilists at St Petersburg has boon simplified. First Lieutenant Soukanoff has acknowledged the truth of the charges against him. He states that the dynamite used to blow up Sadowe street was taken by him from the naval powder magazine. The Haytion Chambers voted a reward to President Solomon for bis satisfactory administration by giving him £lo,ooocash, and a city or country estate according to his choice, and a medal of honour with the inscription “The Sixteenth Legislature to the illustrious patriot General Solomon, President of Hayti, tram bis grateful country."
