SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

LAKESIDE, An ordinary meeting of the Lakeside School Committee vai held in the ichoolroom on Deo. 24. The Chairman, Mr Overton, road correspondence from ths Board of Education re deposit of salaries and incidentals to Committee's credit in Bonk of Hew Zealand; also advising the Committee that their application with reference to a site for a public library would be considered at the next meeting of the Board. Two weeks* holidays, granted by the Chairman, were approved by the Committee. The Inspector's report on the annual examination of the school was read, the Committee fully endorsing Mr Edge's remarks that the master and his assistant, Miss Elwin, had produced very satisfactory results daring the year. The Inspector's remarks ore as follows:—"The pupils who passed their standards acquitted themselves well in spelling, arithmetic and grammar, only moderately in reading, geography and history. The penmanship throughout is somewhat above too average, all the copy-books, down to thoee of toe youngest children, showing unmistakeable signs of careful teaching. The register* were neatly and correctly kept. Fair order was maintained. The grounds and buildings are in good condition. Percentage of passes in standards, 72."
