INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

A nNtiol of the Committee of the IndustrijJ. AtMMttioa was held last evening, at 7 ©’dock} present—Messrs j. p. sawsstfu i lOrk, T. O. Unf, etui - Buchanan, The Chairman explained thud h« had cAlletl the Committee together in eompUuee with ihelr nqtmt, eonmd to him through the kle President, Mr Howland. He ws# very pleaerf to mums hit dull## as President, end glad that the draatntUmeet that had led to We retlfoaUM bed hew-removed. Ho honed that they would he no longer divided, bat work harmoniously together, and chest fully tubwit to the will of the majority, which wat the only method to ensure success in their oetmnoa object—the advancement of local manufactures and induelrle*. -He had a suggestion to make to them, which he toweled would meet with (heir *pprsval. It was that there should he an malgamation between the Committee of the Industrial Aneoclalloa and the citieee*’ Com, taiUee, which had been appointed to secure a display at teeel productions at Messrs Joubelt and Twopeny's Exhibition. This might he effected if the sub-Uotnmlltee they had appointed Invited the citi sens’ Committee to confer with them. II this course were adopted, then he thought it would be advisable far the amalgamated Oommittoee to appoint certam gentlemen who hod a special flioasa for a particular line of work, who would see that the ramus branches of trade or manufactures they wore given charge of went well represented at the coming Exhibition. fie considered that the general policy that the Industrie! Association should pursue should ho to endeavour to secure as large a display as possible of New Zetland goods, ana lor that purpose il would bo advisable for them to 00-opento with the Oitiseut' CbmmiltM. There was another matter be wished to men tics, and that wee that he desired it to be known that those persons who wished to apply for any of the bonuses offered by Government for local manufacture*, Ac,, should give notice of their intention to the Government to that effect by Dec. 8L Mr Howland thought it had been understood at the time toe eub-Ocmmitteo, with reference to Means doubert and Twopeny'e exhibition had beco appointed, that those eoßpristaf II should not move from their own ground j and he thought they should rather wail for overtures from toe Oitiaeus' Oommittoe on toe matter of co-operation. Mr England agreed with the Ohaimaa'e snpaslioa that their ■ub-Oommitlco should endeavour to work with the Oilmens' Committee.

Mr T. O. Kelsey suggested that the whole of the Industrial Association's Committee should invito the Exhibition Committee of Citizens to unite with them in them endeavours to secure the J beet possible display o! bool productions and manufactures. He moved a resolution to that effect Mr Kirk mid that he believed one of the objects the Committee had in view when they desired the President to call that meeting was to obtain from him an expression of opinion as to whether ho considered ho could consistently hold the doable position of President of the Industrial RahihHitwi and Chairman of the (kttxens* Committee aa matters at present stood. He considered that it was them Committee’s duty to carry out the resolution, which had been recently passed at a meeting of the Association, m its entirety, without reference to any outside body, and he would Uks to ask the Chairman whether he thought it would be consistent lor him to act as head of both Oommiltect. The Chairman said he did not consider it would be consistent for him to hold the two positions. The Citizens* Committee had now in hand the matte of arranging for the allocation of space among the various New ginalami exhibitors, and they hod also proposed to appoint snb-Oommittees for each of the different branches of trade and manufoetoms, hut they had delayed In their action for a moment to see if this Association would undertake the work, and if there was an amalgamation there would be an end of the difficulty with regard to his holding a double position. Mr Kelsey’s previous motion not having been seconded, he now moved—“ That the existing sub-Committeo, re exhibition, be dissolved, and that the Committee of the Industrial Association, hereby invitee the Citizens' Committee to co-operate with them in the matter.” Mr Bepenrit seconded the motion. Mr England said that with regard to the President holding the Chairmanship of both Committee*, he did not think that course would be advisable, if (hero was any antagonism between the two Committees. He had been Informed that the Citizens* Committee had no direct control over the allocation of space, and they only sought, in common with the Industrial Association, to make the matter known among manufacturers generally. Hence he thought the difficulty Mr Kirk had mentioned would be removed by mi smdkasiatigQ# TheChairmsn explained that the Citizens' Committee was entirely independent of Messrs Joubert and Ivopeny, mod only communicated with them officially. Alter Mine further discussion, Ur Kelsey’s motion was pnt and carried unanimously. The Chairman mid he would he happy to convey the resolution to the Citizens 1 ComasHtee. The Secretary read a letter from Mr Howfend, drawing attention to the excessive railway tariff on buggies and carriages, and suggesting that the Committee should communicate with the Government with a view to obtain a redaction of the railway chargee in this respect. ■ The letter was referred to the President and Vice-President to bring the matter under ths notice of Government. It was derided that the Committee should, for the future, meet fortnightly, on alternate Tuesday®. The Committee then adjourned to Tuesday next, at 7JO p,m., when the CKUzens* Exhibition Committee will be invited to meet them.
