There was sol much to notice in the second innings of the Association except the steady batting of Strange and Fowler, the capital fielding ol pome ol the Wanderers, and the excellent bowling of Oettorill, who had a wicket that suited him, and made good use of his op* portunity, Tho total being 141 the Wanderers bad 89 to gel, and slightly over an hour la which to accomplish it. They set to work Quickly, but a smart catch, which disposed of Beeves, and an equally good one (both by the same fieldsman), which sent Ashby back to the pavilion, encouraged, the bowlers eo much that the task was soon found to be beyond the powers of tho strolling players. OABISBEOOK r. ASHLEY COUNTY. The Carisbrook 7. Ashley County was begun yesterday, on the Lancaster Fart ground- Both wicket and weather were as near perfection as need be. The match was began considerably after the time advertised, Ashley County going to the wickets about IL3O a.m. They were not dismissed till 4 p.m.; W. B. Leach (Captain) 110 sot out, Bleary 29, Good 21, and Mill ton 19, having done most of the scoring for their side. Total—l 96. Tho Oorobrook men then essayed their fortune, bat met with miserable ill-luck, as they were all oat before the time (or drawing stamps had arrived, for a meagre total of 50. Their sadden downfall wae doe to the excellent bowling of Chapman, who took eight wickets at a coat of 25 vans, and succeeded in performing the “ hat trick.” In throe consecutive bolls He took the wickets of Messrs Vernon, Austin, and Morrison, The only southern men who succeeded in making double figures were Bose 13, Vernon 12, and Collmecu 10, including a fine hit to square* leg for 5. The fielding on both rides was good throughout. Leach's innings was a model of correct play, clean and hard hitting. Had It not been for a hard chan 00 given to long-field in tho early part of it, it would have been absolutely faultless. The scores will bs given to-morrow.
