The report of the Works Committee, as already published, waa brought before the Councillor Grubb moved—•“ That the work

Councillor M'Pherson said he thought the Finance Committee should consider the position of the Council, and make the necessary financial arrangements, as the total sum to bo expended on the whole of the work wae £350, a largo amount of which would have to be borrowed. It was understood that the carrying oat of the scheme was dependent on the Council obtaining money on acceptable terms. Regarding the carting, tenders were opened from Messrs and liesloy ana Mr Dirnond, both lender* being at the same rale. It was resolved tint Mr Dimond’s tender be accepted. The report of the Committee appointed to report on the damage done to the Governor’s Bay road through a land slip was read. The Committee reported that they could not recommend the Counoil to accept the offer of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, viz, to erect a sft picket fence, for the reseon that It would not be sufficient protection. The Committee were of opinion that nothing less than a permanent stone wall, say 3ft above the road level, will bo a sufficient protection, they therefore recommend the Council to call upon the Harbour Board to at once repair the damage done to the said rood and restore it to ite original width. rOBIKAK OT WOBKB* BBPOBT. The Foreman reported that some now hoso would have to bo procured for supplying water to the shipping, and tor fire prevention purposes; also that two tanks would have to be procured for the upper level supply. It was decided that the hose be procured, and •ample* obtained from Dunedin. The Council taen went into Committee, and on resuming adjourned.
